Gates STA-LEVEL (Vintage)

$5,000.00

Gates Sta-Level from the late 1950s with the slightly rarer “Harris” style faceplate.  These tube mono vari-mu limiters were originally intended for AM broadcast limiting but have found a dedicated following as a studio piece in the last three decades due to their simple control set and excellent sound;  they are also a lot more compact than many of the other broadcast pieces from that era.

This unit was brought up to modern studio standard in 2003 by Steve Firlotte from Inward Connections who performed a thorough recap and optimized the circuit for modern operating levels, as well as changing the extra slow 20 second release to a much more useful 5 second release.  A recent service with Matt DelVecchio included a NOS set of 6V6 output tubes, cleaning and calibration.   A great option for vocals, mono drums, bass and acoustic instruments, or really any mono source that would benefit from a thick and characterful sound.
