Quad Eight Pacifica / Ventura Pair (Vintage)
These are a pair of channel strips from a 1970s Quad Eight Pacifica or Ventura console. The consoles are functionally identical once the latter’s VCA automation is removed from the circuit. They utilize AM10 discrete op amps and are a classic example of 1970s American hi-fi sound. They easily hold par with the more widely seen Neve and API mic pres and EQs but are less commonly racked up due to the full channel strip design. The design most resembles API modules from the 1970s but they have their own character that most people would describe as more open on the top and bottom end with less accentuated midrange.
The EQs are stepped in both frequency and boost / cut and are again similar to their API counterparts but with a wider and more natural Q shape on the bells. High and low are switchable to shelving and there are simple HP/LP filters as well.
These modules are difficult to rack correctly as they require cutting down the face plates to fit into a standard 19” rack. This work was done to the highest standard by Ken Hirsch @ Orphan Audio and included a full recapping, repair of any issues, and lots of options including Mic and Line in and a full insert routing (which enables splitting the two halves of each module to work independently if insert pre EQ is selected) The monitor return pot on the top of the module is modded to act as an output fader driving a second AM10 stage allowing overdriving the preamp etc. Included are 4x spare vintage AM10 modules and some extra meter lamps.
Local pickup only. Email for appointment.
